Meeting and Planning for the Ngutukaka project

šŸ„€This week we were joined by Trees That Count, Bay Conservation Alliance, RaukÅ«mara Pae Maunga Restoration ProjectĀ and people from The Endangered Species Foundation, who embarked on a real and heart-felt journey to the heart of Tairawhiti (East Cape) to meet the people who work on the ground here, re-establishing Tairawhiti Ngutukaka šŸ„€.

We shared how we are educating, growing and planting ngutukākā at kura, marae and along roadsides, from Ngāti Porou to Te Whānau a Apanui. This is just the start of our journey to restore this taonga species to an entire coast that used to bloom red!

We also had a planning session and will be developing a video and a first time, Ngutukākā Festival in 2024. So watch this space – tickets will be limited and in high demand, for some very special #endangeredspeciesĀ garden tours, found nowhere else on earth.

šŸ˜ Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou, our pou who brought us all together and massive thanks to Trust TairāwhitiĀ and the Sunrise Foundation for supporting this mahi, we cannot do it without you. šŸ„€šŸ„€šŸ„€
